Churches Malaga – Sagrado Corazón
Plaza de San Ignacio (behind the Carmen Thyssen Museum)
Hours: 7 am to midday and 6 pm to 7.30 pm.
The Church of the Sacred Heart is a ‘new’ neo-Gothic church, built in 1920 under the patronage of the Jesuits.
Its architect was the renowned Fernando Guerrero Strachan who also designed many other buildings in Malaga.
Malaga’s immense city hall is also an example of his fabulous work.
The architect was inspired by the cathedrals of Burgos and Toledo.
The interior of the church is just as impressive as the exterior, consisting of a basilica divided into three aisles and an impressive ogival vault.
Also note the stained glass, the altar and the large paintings.
